How the job search is going....with affiliate marketing.

I am still looking for a job I could do from home. I have researched extensively affiliate marketing and have found that it is not a scam, it is possible to make money, it just isn't easy and it doesn't happen overnight. I have also found that usually you need your own website to drive traffic to the other sites, or products that you are selling for that site or company. Once that person actually buys the product from the site or company, then you get the commission or portion of the sale.
I joined one of the affiliate networks and have tried to sell different products. Most I saw on the network I would never buy myself, but I did find some I thought were worthwhile. I tried writing articles or posting links on this site or in free classifieds, unfortunately they did not sell. This was about 2 years ago. I figured that it was all a scam and gave up.
Recently, I revisited the idea and now I know that my problem is traffic. In researching I have found that most people online pay for traffic in Google or Yahoo or some other search engine. They send emails to people, promoting products, usually, Ebooks or CdRoms that explain how to make money online. I am not saying it is not impossible, I believe it is possible, my only problem, is that I have no money to pay for a website or hosting or to buy traffic. I know that an affiliate marketer can promote products without a paid website, only how do you actually get traffic to it without buying it?
I have decided to keep researching more affiliate networks and to look for more quality products that would be worthwhile promoting. I thought I would try again to write articles, but write more and be more consistent. I really want to know if it is possible and I am going to keep researching traffic. I did find one great product: free web hosting that I do use myself. I have used the company to host four sites and would recommend it to anyone.
